About Us

Some people find that they cannot access the help they need within the education system. This has been my experience and that of my family. We are all primarily visual thinkers and have shown signs of dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADD and ADHD, stress, memory problems and lack of mental focus. We all felt that our educational needs were not being met and that our abilities were being underestimated.

Over 10 years of study and research led me to discover that our difficulties had a common cause which has a simple remedy. The Dyslexia Wales and West courses are the result.

We extend a warm welcome to everyone who would like Dyslexia Wales and West to enrich their lives.

I always suspected that we had dyslexia in the family. I found it difficult to learn in school, so I recognised the traits when my own children experienced similar difficulties. My daughter became chronically ill with a stress-related condition known as ME aged 7. My son became disruptive and refused to attend school aged 8.

After many psychologists' reports and unhelpful attempts to 'correct' and 'beat' my children's dyslexia, I realised that I would have to research the subject in order to help them myself. I discovered that dyslexia and its associated conditions such as dyspraxia, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, dyscalculia, and even such things as low self esteem, poor time management, bedwetting or travel sickness, health anomolies and even food intolerances can all have the same root cause.

My daughter was helped by the Davis technique, but as I studied it I felt that it was not the complete answer. I undertook courses in specific learning difficulties and counselling, and researched the effects of nutrition on dyslexia. My Dyslexia Wales and West courses are an amalgam of all my studies and direct experience of my own and my family's dyslexia, enhanced by each client I teach.

I founded Dyslexia Wales and West in April 2004 to help others struggling to function to their capability. Dyslexia Wales and West offers diagnostic assessments for dyslexia and associated conditions. People who can benefit are offered one or more individually tailored one week courses. Each one to one course is followed by a home programme, with a follow-up day some weeks later to review and support progress.

Dyslexia Wales and West workshops help people of all ages. The great thing about Dyslexia Wales and West is that it is run by a person with dyslexia for people with dyslexia. Dyslexia Wales and West succeeds by teaching in the way people with dyslexia learn. The 'special' help offered in the education system to pupils with dyslexia actually adds an extra layer of difficulty to the acquisition of knowledge. This leads to chronic stress, low self-esteem and illness which can lead to alienation from society. Any family with a dyslexic member will be only too familiar with this.

The Dyslexia Wales and West workshops are FUN. Teenagers have even been known to get out of bed for them! Multiple members of the same family have undertaken them. Each course of workshops is tailored to the individual, working through the medium of oil bound clay.

Having dyslexia is like having a fast car. You need to learn to drive it. Having learnt to drive your ultra-fast brain brings an enormous sense of relief and gratitude. Hence the frequent huge hugs I receive from clients! Their joy gives me immense job satisfaction.
